Abstract

There have been lots of political, social and philosophical developments (events) since Herodotus that affected the narration of history from the past to the present. The varying perspectives and chronicle of history from the time of mythological heroes to leading people (of the time), from social history to daily life has also produced a notion for cinema today. The question of cinema being credited as a type (form) of history or not has actually been positioned at the highly debated cross road of history swinging between being a science and story telling. Founded on this debate, this study aims to draw a framework for the relationship between cinema and history, looking into how, via which means cinema depicts history, social history. Within this framework, how different directors, different periods approached history via myths have been analyzed. Both the history and the myths have varied depending on the director?s views on history, on world and choice of cinematography. Overall, films might be valued as an art work, a history investigation or just an industrial product.
