The aim of this study is to investigate and evaluate the ecological footprint awareness levels of science and technology teacher candidates. The other aim of this study is to reveal science and technology teacher candidates' views on ways to reduce the ecological foot print. This research was performed with 361 the science and technology teacher candidates were in Science Education Department of Gazi Education Faculty of Gazi University at 2013-2014 spring semester. The research is carried out in a cross-sectional survey model. The variables of this resarch are sex, grade levels, the longest place of residence unit, economic income scheme and education levels of parents. The quantitative data were collected with `Ecological Footprint Awareness Scale` and analyzed with SPSS (Statictical Package for Social Sciences Program) 18.0 statistical analysis program. The descriptive statistic techniques, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA and correlation analysis were benefitted in the analysis of quantitative data. For qualitative analysis of data content analysis method was selected and the data were analyzed with HyperRESEARCHTM2.6.1. qualitative analysis program.The quantitative results obtained from this study showed that science and technology teacher candidates have the largest footprint in food subscale, and the smallest footprint in energy subscale. The ecological footprint awareness levels of female science and technology teacher candidates were found significantly higher than the ecological footprint awareness levels of male science and technology teacher candidates. The ecological footprint awareness levels of science and technology teacher candidates were not observed significant differences terms of variables the longest place of residence unit and parental education status. As a result of interviews, it was determined that the science and tecnology teacher candidates were making suggestions leading them to the revision of their consumption choices and requiring them to make changes in their lifestyles.

Bu çalışmanın amacı fen ve teknoloji öğretmen adaylarının ekolojik ayak izi farkındalık düzeylerinin belirlenmesi ve değerlendirilmesidir. Çalışmanın diğer amacı ise fen ve teknoloji öğretmen adaylarının çevreyle ilgili ayak izlerini azaltma yolları konusundaki görüşlerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Araştırma 2013–2014 eğitim öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Gazi Üniversitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretim Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalı'nda öğrenim gören 361 fen ve teknoloji öğretmen adayı ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırma kesitsel tarama modelinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın değişkenleri; cinsiyet, sınıf düzeyi, en uzun süre yaşanılan yerleşim birimi, ekonomik gelir düzeyi ve anne-babanın eğitim durumudur. Araştırmada nicel veriler `Ekolojik Ayak İzi Farkındalık Ölçeği` ile toplanmış ve SPSS (Statictical Package for Social Sciences Program) 18.0 paket programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Nicel verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistik teknikleri, bağımsız örneklemler t-testi, tek faktörlü ANOVA ve korelasyon analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Nitel verilerin çözümlenmesi içinse içerik analizi yöntemi seçilmiş ve veriler HyperRESEARCHTM2.6.1. nitel analiz programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen nicel sonuçlar fen ve teknoloji öğretmen adaylarının en büyük ayak izine gıda alt boyutunda ve en küçük ayak izine enerji alt boyutunda sahip olduğunu göstermiştir. Kadın fen ve teknoloji öğretmen adaylarının ekolojik ayak izi farkındalık düzeylerinin, erkek fen ve teknoloji öğretmen adaylarının ekolojik ayak izi farkındalık düzeylerinden anlamlı şekilde yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur. Fen ve teknoloji öğretmen adaylarının ekolojik ayak izi farkındalık düzeylerinde en uzun süre yaşanılan birim, anne eğitim durumu ve baba eğitim durumu değişkenleri bakımından anlamlı farklılık gözlenmemiştir. Yapılan görüşmeler sonucunda, fen ve teknoloji öğretmen adaylarının ekolojik ayak izlerini azaltma yolları konusunda yaşam tarzlarında değişimler gerektiren ve tüketim tercihlerini tekrar gözden geçirmelerini sağlayan önerilerde bulundukları tespit edilmiştir.
