In this study, the effect of project based learning method to the success level of 7 th grade students, while teaching them the unit ?Travelling to the Centre of Substance? is discussed.This study was carried out 68 students at 7th grade Yeniceoba Atatürk Primary School in Cihanbeyli/administrative district of Konya. This study was done in the first semester of 2006?2007 acedemic year and lased nine weeks. The students in 7A and 7B classes were seterated into two groups as control and experimental groups. Before putting the study into practice, an achievement test prepared according to the aims and behaviours of the unit ?Travelling to the Centre of Substance? was applied. The aim of this study is to measure if the students? pre-information is equal or not. As an experimental procedure, while project based learning method was used in the experiment group, methods mentioned in curriculum of science and technology lesson about this unit were used in control group. At the end of the unit, the effect of project based learning method to the success levels of the students was researched by applying a post-test to the students.In analysis of the research datums, t-tests and percentage experessions were used. The findings having appeared as a result of the statistical analyses acquired in this study were given below: No meaningful differences could have been found between the pre-test success levels of the group that project based learning method was applied to and of the group that the traditional method was applied to. Before the success test had been applied, it was seen that pre-information of the experimental group and of the control group were equal. A meaningful difference that is in the favour of experimental group, have been found between post test success levels of the group that project based learning method was applied to and of the group that the traditional method was applied to. A meaningfull difference have been found between the pre-test and post test results for success levels of the students in the experimental group. No meaningfull difference could have been found between the pre-test and post test results for success levels of the students in the control group.Key words: Project-Based Learning, Science Teaching, Substance.

Bu çalışmada ilköğretim 7.sınıf öğrencilerine ?Maddenin İç Yapısına Yolculuk? ünitesinin öğretiminde proje tabanlı öğrenme yönteminin öğrencilerin başarı düzeyine etkisiincelenmiştir.Araştırma Konya ili, Cihanbeyli İlçesi Yeniceoba Atatürk İlköğretim Okulu, 7. sınıfında okuyan 68 öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. 2006?2007 öğretim yılının I. yarısında yapılan bu çalışma 9 hafta sürmüştür. 7A ve 7B sınıfındaki öğrenciler kontrol ve deney grubu olarak ikiye ayrılmıştır. Uygulamaya başlamadan önce ?Maddenin İç Yapısına Yolculuk? ünitesinin amaç ve davranışlarına göre hazırlanan başarı testi, ön test olarak uygulanmıştır. Ön test uygulamanın amacı öğrencilerin ön bilgilerinin denk olup olmadığını ölçmektir. Deneysel işlem olarak deney grubunda proje tabanlı öğrenme yöntemi, kontrol grubunda ise fen ve teknoloji dersi müfredat programında bu ünite için seçilmiş yöntemler kullanılmıştır. Ünitenin sonunda öğrencilere başarı testi son test şeklinde uygulanarak proje tabanlı öğrenme yönteminin öğrencilerin başarı düzeylerine etkisi incelenmiştir.Araştırmada verilerin çözümlenmesinde t testi ve yüzde ifadeler kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırmada elde edilen verilerin istatistiksel analizleri sonucu ortaya çıkan bulgular aşağıda verilmiştir.Proje tabanlı öğrenme yönteminin uygulandığı grup ile geleneksel yöntemin uygulandığı grubun ön test başarı düzeyleri arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunamamıştır. Başarı testi uygulanmadan önce deney ve kontrol grubunun ön bilgilerinin denk olduğu görülmüştür. Proje tabanlı öğrenme yönteminin uygulandığı grup ile geleneksel yöntemin uygulandığı grubun son test başarı düzeylerinde, deney grubu lehine anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmuştur. Deney grubundaki öğrencilere uygulanan ön test?son test sonuçları başarı düzeyleri arasında anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmuştur. Kontrol grubundaki öğrencilere uygulanan ön test?son test sonuçları başarı düzeyleri arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunamamıştır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Proje Tabanlı Öğrenme, Fen Bilgisi Öğretimi, Madde.
