Abstract

The welfare of the society and its individuals constitutes the basic goals of all the countries and the political powers under their government, no matter what their political and economical orders are. How much the goal has been accomplished, how much of it has been achieved compared to the other countries have to do with the measuring of welfare. National income, which was the reference for a long time and it being measured and being the subject of welfare evaluation, has almost ended lately because of the different criteria having come in to play, especially human development.Within this framework, the first part of the study will be consisted of 'national income', which is the basic measuring method of welfare, and the second part will tackle the new welfare measurement indicators that have surfaced with the transition to the Information Age. The third and the last part of the study will consist of those welfare measurement indicators in the second part being analyzed through the case of Turkey.
