Abstract

This research is based on the two viola sonatas of contemporary German composer and musician Paul Hindemith. He composed these sonatas for his solo concerts. In this study the musicianship and works of the composer is going to be examined through the details of his concentrated musical life. These informations which are gathered from the formal documents contain quite important hints about the composer. The Solo Viola Sonatas entitled Op. 31 No: 4 and 1937 are going to be analysed and also exercises guides are going to be submitted about the methods of practice for the interpretations and the technical challenges of these pieces. There are also explanatory information about the studied works as well. The full printed scores of the works with suggested fingerings and bowings are added at the end of the study. In the appendix, after the printed scores of these two sonatas, the manuscript of Op. 31 No: 4 with the fingering and bowing of the composer is also affixed.
