Abstract

The objective of this study is to propose a plan for the preservation, maintenance and display of the mosaic pavements unearthed in ancient city of Perge. Thousands of square meters of mosaic pavements have been discovered in Perge, where excavation has been carried on since 1946. Unlike many other archaeological sites with mosaics in Turkey, the mosaics here are preserved in situ and this makes the ancient city of Perge more significant with regards to its mosaics. The preservation of the Perge mosaic pavements, which compose an essential part of our cultural heritage, with a systematic and sustainable preservation, periodical maintenance and display plan will make the safeguarding of them without losing any quality possible and this will enable the visitors to appreciate them as a part of the complex that they belong to. In addition to the preservation and the uninterrupted maintenance of the mosaic pavements in Perge, this study discusses the proper planning techniques for the display in order to contribute to the tourism market in the region.
