Problem solving takes an important place to the studies of mathematical education. One of the reasons of these might be that one of the important goals of mathematical education is bringing up each individual as a good problem solver. From this point of view, metacognitive strategies underlies metacognitive skills, which are used by students in the problem solving process, has been tried to determine in this study. Besides, the other purpose is the examination of the relationship between achievements in problem solving and metacognitive strategies which are used by them.This study, adopted the qualitative research method, conducted with 5 eighth grades students in 2011-2012 academic year. In problem solving sitting, problem solving inventory includes 5 non-routine problems has was applied to applied determine metacognitive strategies of metacognitive skills are used by student. When students were studying on the problem, strategies of metacognitive skills, which are used by students, were tried to determine by the researcher through observation method. After the students completed problem solving, students were asked to fill the student feedback form which had been prepared by researcher. After the students completed all the problems, clinical interviews were practiced. Problem solving inventories, camera records, observation and student feedback forms are data references of this study.Data obtained from research demonstrates that strategies belong to prediction, planning, observation and evaluation ? metacognitive skills- are cognitive or meta cognitive, according to students? goals of use. In addition, it?s found out that using of metacognitive skills, by the students in problem solving process, is not the predictor of their achievements in problem solving.Key Words: Meta Cognition, Meta cognitive Skills and Meta Cognitive Strategy.

Problem çözme matematik eğitimi alanında yapılan çalışmalarda önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Matematik eğitiminin önemli amaçlarından birinin bireyleri iyi birer problem çözücü olarak yetiştirmek olması bu durumun nedenlerinden biri olarak söylenebilir. Bu durumdan hareketle bu çalışmada öğrencilerin problem çözme sürecinde üstbiliş beceriler altında kullandıkları üstbiliş stratejiler belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin problem çözme başarıları ile kullandıkları üstbiliş stratejiler arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi de amaçlanmıştır.Nitel araştırma yönteminin benimsendiği bu çalışma 2011-2012 Eğitim ve Öğretim Yılı'nda sekizinci sınıfa devam eden 5 öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. Problem çözme oturumunda öğrencilerin üstbiliş becerilere ait kullandıkları üstbiliş stratejileri tespit etmek amacıyla beş adet rutin olmayan problemden oluşan problem çözme envanteri kullanılmıştır. Öğrenciler problem üzerinde çalışırken araştırmacı tarafından öğrencilerin kullandıkları üstbiliş becerilere ait stratejiler gözlem yöntemiyle belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Öğrenciler problemin çözümünü tamamladıktan sonra öğrencilerden araştırmacı tarafından oluşturulan öğrenci geri bildirim formlarını doldurmaları istenmiştir. Tüm problemlerin öğrenciler tarafından tamamlanmasından sonra klinik mülakatlar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Problem çözme envanterleri, gözlem, öğrenci geri bildirim formları ve mülakatlar bu araştırmanın veri kaynaklarını oluşturmaktadır.Araştırmadan elde edilen veriler üstbiliş beceriler olan tahmin, planlama, izleme ve değerlendirmeye ait stratejilerin öğrencilerin kullanım amaçlarına göre bilişsel veya üstbilişsel olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca öğrencilerin problem çözme sürecinde üstbiliş beceriler kullanmasıyla problem çözme başarılarıarasında karmaşık bir ilişki olduğu görülmüştür.Anahtar Kelimeler: Üstbiliş, Üstbiliş Beceri ve Üstbiliş Strateji, Problem Çözme.
