Abstract

Tomb is a construction type, which was developed, extended and made known in the in the Islamic World by Turks. Its origin is based on the tent tradition of Central Asia. Ottoman Art from the Tulip Era entered into `Westernization Process` and as it affected the whole architectural works, westernization movement also affected the tomb architecture. In this era, works, in which the Baroque and Empire style is clearly seen, were built. From the 18th century while the Baroque style was being seen in the constructions, by the end of the 19th century it became possible to see the Turkey Neo-Classical features, as well. Westernization movement affected the constructions of this period in terms of not only architecture and decoration but also plans. In this context, as architectural elements, column headings were inspired by the Corinthian style. Belt forms were often kept as round and `S` shaped curves, multiple profiles, curved lines have been seen as Baroque features. Decorative factors were used in an exaggerated way. In this study, which examines the 19th and 20th century tomb architecture, style analysis of the constructions are separately tried to make and their relation to each other is examined.Key Words: Tomb, Architecture, Westernization.
