Abstract

The vicinal cis-diols, a part of the cyclitols, are the most important ones because they are important component of many drugs and they show significant biological activities. In this study, we have developed a novel and facile oxidation system for the dihydroxylation of olefins to vicinal cis-diols. A novel protocol for the practical and green synthesis of vicinal cis-diols from 10.0 mmol olefins by using 5.0 mmol KMnO4 as oxidant and 30.0 mmol H2O2 as co-oxidant is developed. The developed procedure is easy to carry out and enables the direct transformation of linear and cyclic alkenes to corresponding vicinal cis-diols. The use of H2O2 as a co-oxidant is the key for the protocol to synthesize vicinal cis-diols at high yields because it assists the oxidation of MnxOy nanoaggregates, mainly Mn3O4, which has active role in the oxidation reaction conditions. The Mn3O4 nanoaggregates were characterized by using several advanced analytical techniques (TEM, SEM, EDX, XRD, XPS, BET and BJT). The results revealed that the use of H2O2 as a co-oxidant has extend life Mn3O4 nanoaggregates which has active role in the oxidation reaction medium. In conclusion, the present KMnO4/H2O2 oxidation system provides many advantages such as being eco-friendly, using fewer equivalents KMnO4 and in situ generation of the catalyst.

Siklitollerin önemli bir bölümü olan visinal cis-diol grupları birçok ilacın ve biyolojik aktif moleküllerin önemli bileşenidirler. Bu çalışmada; olefinlerin dihidroksilasyon reaksiyonlarıyla visinal cis-diollere dönüşümü için yeni kolay bir oksidasyon yönetimi geliştirilmiştir. Olefinlerden (10,0 mmol) visinal cis-diollerin pratik ve yeşil kimya ağırlıklı sentezi için KMnO4 (5,0 mmol) ve H2O2 (30,0 mmol) yardımcı oksidant olarak kullanılarak geliştirildi. Geliştirilen bu yöntem ile halkalı ve düz zincirli olefinlerden ilgili visinal cis-dioller yüksek verimlerle elde edildi. Yardımcı oksidant olarak kullanılan H2O2 visinal cis-diollerin sentezinde anahtar bir rol oynamıştır çünkü reaksiyonda aktif rol oynayan, ana bileşeni Mn3O4 olan MnxOy nanoagregatların sentezine yardımcı olmuşlardır. Mn3O4 nanoagregatları çeşitli analitik teknikler (TEM, SEM, EDX, XRD, XPS, BET ve BJT) kullanılarak karakterize edilmiştir. Yapılan çalışmalardaki sonuçlar, yardımcı oksidant olarak H2O2'nin kullanılması oksidasyon reaksiyonunda önemli rol oynayan Mn3O4 nanoagregatların yaşam süresini uzattığını göstermiştir. Sonuç olarak, KMnO4/H2O2 oksidasyon sistemi çevre dostu daha az KMnO4 kullanılması gibi avantajlar sağlamıştır.
