Andalus took a new period after 'Abdurrahman III declared his caliphate. In this period, with the achievement of political stability, various developments in social and cultural area appeared. During the reign of caliph 'Abdurrahman III and el-Hakem II, they did everything they could on the improvements in scientific and literary fields and the structure of cultural environment. They achieved to bring the scholars such as the Ebû 'Ali el-Kâlî and Sa'id el-Bağdâdî and their works to Andalus. Meanwhile, poetry and prose, which moved to Andalus from the East by couger army, extended to a wide range region thanks to the supports in the caliphate period. In this period, Muvaşşah, a kind of poetry belonging to Andalus, is seen to have appeared as well as maintained its development under the effect of East. Also in this period, famous poets such as İbn Hânî, İbn 'Abdi Rabbih, İbn Şuheyd and İbn Derrâc el-Kastalî appeared in the field of classic poetry in Andalus. The development of Andalus prose remained to be slow compared to poetry and formed the basic of prose developing after caliphate period. The development of the prose in this period seems to have been in pamphlet. It can be said that the pamphlets are in the style of politic, İkhvaniyat and fiction. In this field, it is the main point that İbn Burd el-Ekber, İbn Burd el-Asğar, İbn Derrac and İbn Şuheyd, diligent authors, as to poetship grew. Therefore, prose can be said to have developed in the shade of poetry. Consequently, it can be determined that poetry and prose which developed in the period of caliphate in Andalus had a positive effect on poetry and prose which made a great progress in following centuries.
