Abstract

Today, the most popular subject in the world agenda is the problems about climate change. Global warming is the result of human activities carried out in the cities. It is necessary to focus on the cities in order to solve the problem. In this thesis, climate change resilient, energy efficient and sustainable planning and design principles were discussed with a scope of urban areas and their vicinities. In conclusion, it was attained that the arrangements based on these principles at thebeginning of the planning and design process provides the urban areas where the energy is efficiently used, ecological balance and biodiversity are obtained and the low carbon development principles can be implemented. Reaching to these goals is only possible with the realization and implementation of the sustainable planning and design principles which have the ecological basis.
