Abstract

The objective of this thesis is a 2-dimensional analysis of shape projections of projectiles within their trajectories under atmospheric conditions, for all types of munition used in barrelled weapons and using the results of the analysis in munition design and modelling. The study begins with the definition of the functioning principles of ballistic elements directly related to exterior ballistic and of barraled weapons, together with a classification according to their historical development. Then, the aerodynamical forces and moments which are necessary in the analysis of exterior ballistic elements are analysed one by one.The forces effecting the projectiles within their trajectories under atmospheric conditions are analysed and a generic solution are obtained by developing a mathematical model of these parameters. In conclusion, the objective of the study is to develop a computer model that provides the most realistic results and that could be utilized in the design of new-generation munition instead of trial and error applications.
