In machining, mechanical energy transforms into thermal energy. With the advancing technology, the workpiece materails used in modern industries have also changed and the usage of materials with negative properties such as high hardness and low thermal conductivity has increased. During the machining of such materials, tool life decreases because of more heat releasing than normal.Researchers are trying various methods to increase the productivity and sustainability of cutting tools. Of these methods, the most widely used in the industry is machining with the cutting fluids. With the usage of cutting fluids, both the generated heat during machining decreases and the lubrication effects of these fluids increases the tool life. Despite these posivite effects of cutting fluids, they are harmful to ecology and human health and also they have expensive disposal costs. For the sustainable production, cutting tools has to be improved in terms of tool life, cutting forces and workpiece surface roughness values. Some of the improvements that have been tried on cutting tools are the development of new cutting tool materials, the application of new tool coatings, and various changes in tool geometry. A recent research topic is the tool surface texturing, which aims to increase tool life depending decrease the friction between tool and workpiece. Basically, this process aims to change the surface integrity of the tool by laser, micro EDM, mechanical grinding etc. methods and to improve the tool life and cutting forces.Studies in the literature on the effects of textured tools during machining are limited. Investigation of the effects of surface texturing tools in machining will make significant contributions to literature and manufacturing industry. In this study, firstly the literature summary about the surface texturing process which is the subject of this thesis is presented and then surface texturing, effect of surface texturing, wiper tool geometry and tool wear subjects are explained. In the experimental part of the study, a series of preliminary experiments were conducted to confirm the data in the literature and to gather information for the actual experiments. For these preliminary experiments, three conventional tools were textured by using two different laser processing methods, and the effects of texture type and depth on flank wear were investigated. In additon, the effects of texturing on Ra value of workpiece and chip formations were also investigated. According to the results obtained in the preliminary experiments, in parallel with the results in the literature, the surface texture on the cutting tool flank face decreased the contact area between tool and workpiece and significantly increased the tool life. Moreover, it was found that the texture type and depth had important effects on the flank wear. The surface roughness of the workpiece as a result of machining with textured tools varied according to the texture depth. In addition, it was seen that there was no visible changes on chip forms but during machining on entering and exiting of both parallel textured tools, irrespective of depth, different chip formation occured. In the actual experiments, which are the main subject of the thesis, nine wiper tools were textured according to Taguchi L9 (3^3) experimental design method and the most appropriate texture parameters were determined with texture type, width and laser power parameters. Moreover, flank wear, workpiece surface roughness values and chip forms were investigated for all textured wiper tools. Finally, the generated forces during machining were compared with the non-textured reference tool and the tools with the best free surface wear according to the texture types. According to the results of the experiment, it has been seen that the surface texturing on the flank face of wiper tools increased the tool life up to 27% with suitable parameters but it was observed that surface texturing has negative effect on workpiece avarage surface roughness. In terms of the generated forces during machining with textured wiper tools, the cutting and feed forces were not affected by the texturing process, whereas radial forces increased. Finally, it was observed that the chip forms showed similarity during machining with all cutting tools but during machining on entering and exiting of textured wiper tools, different chip formation occurred.
