Abstract

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is one of the main resources ofIslamic culture. This thesis deals with the role of the Prophet especially in the sufi thought.Starting from this point, it is understood that the creation is started with the creation of thelight (nûr) of the Prophet. Everything else was created from that light. This idea wasformulated as ?al-Nur al-Muhammadî? (the light of Muhammad). There is also anotherterm, ?al-Hakîkah al-Muhammadiyya?, used for the same meaning. From the beginning,Muslim Sufis pointed out the precedence of the light of the Prophet. From the creation of this light to the appearance of the Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him), his proxies fulfilled his task such as nubuwwah (prophecy) andwalâyah (sainthood). Therefore, a part of the thesis deals with the relation betweennubuwwah and walâyah. After the investigation, it is understood that walâyah alwaysfollowed nubuwwah, and moreover, it legitimized its existence only after affirmation ofnubuwwah. This affirmation is something Sufis often predicated. After the historical appearance of the Prophet, it emerges that Sufis turned theirattention to his acts and words. In this point, following his ?sunnah? (his acts and words)features heavily in Sufi thought. This adherence helped them inherit a great manycharacteristics of his. In the last part, several issues are studied such as his ascension to theheaven, his right to intercession, and his virtues and characteristics.

İslâm kültürünün temel dayanaklarından birisi Hz. Peygamber (s.a.)'dir. Bu tezinkonusu, Hz. Peygamberin konumunun, özelde sûfî düşüncedeki rolüdür. Tema bu çerçevedearaştırıldığında yaradılışın Hz. Peygamber (s.a.)'in nûru ile başladığı ortaya çıkar. Her şey,onun nûrundan yaratılmıştır. Peygamber'in nûrunun evveliyetini dilegetirmişlerdir. Hz. Peygamber (s.a.)'in bir çoközelliğini tevârüs etmelerini sağlamıştır. Yine burada, Hz. Peygamber (s.a.)'in miracı, şefâat,Hz. Peygamber'in fazîletleri, sûfîlerin ilgilendikleri özel alanlardandır. Peygamber (s.a.)'in özelliklerine yaptığı vurgular etrafındaoluşmuştur.
