Abstract

57 SUMMARY The Role of Pregnancy and Maternal Antibody in Epidemiology of Bovine Rotavirus Infections As an important agent in neonatal gastroenteritis, the rotaviruses may cause subclinical infection in adult cattle. Such animals which are shedding the virulent virus via their feces play an important role in circulation the virus among the susceptible infants. This study had been performed at Karaköy Tarım İşletmesi which is known that the infection detected frequently. In this research, 479 feces samples that belongs to Group 1 which has late pregnant catties and Group II which has 15 non-pregnant catties and newborn which belongs to the Group I had been tested for rotavirus antigen with ELISA and for nucleic acids with PAGE. Also 439 blood sera samples and 120 milk sera samples had been detected for rotavirus spesific antibodies with microneutralization test. Data showed that adult cattle spreads the virus at late pregnancy, especially at the day of giving birth and their newborn probably became infected by the virus which they spread and also this is the main source of the infections for other newborns of the farm. According to the datas gained by the results of the BRV specific antibodies of blood and milk sera, maternal antibodies that transferred by colostrum/milk of natural infected cattle prevent the infection in first week of the postnatal life, and developing of the clinical infection at the days after the week of the postnatal life. 56 ÖZET Sığırlarda Rotavirus Enfeksiyonunun Epidemiyolojisinde Gebeliğin ve Maternal Antikorların Rolü Yenidoğanlarda önemli bir gastroenteritis etkeni olan rotaviruslar, erişkin sığırlarda çoğunlukla subklinik enfeksiyonlara neden olmaktadır. Dışkıları ile virus saçan erişkin hayvanlar sürülerde enfeksiyonun devamlılığım sağlamakta ve yeni doğanlar için bir risk oluşturmaktadırlar. Çalışma, yenidoğan ishalli buzağılarda rotavirus enfeksiyonunun sık olarak saptandığı Karaköy Tarım İşletmesinde gerçekleştirildi. Araştırmada, 20 adet ileri gebe sığırın bulunduğu Grup 1, 15 adet gebe olmayan sığırın bulunduğu Grup II ve Grup I'deki annelerden doğan buzağılara ait toplam 479 adet gaita örneği rotavirus antijeni yönünden ELI S A, rotavirus nükleik asidi yönünden PAGE ile, 439 adet kan serumu ve 120 adet süt serumu örneği ise rotavirus spesifik antikorlar yönünden mikronötralizasyon testi ile kontrol edildi. Elde edilen veriler; erişkin sığırların gebeliğin geç dönemleri ve özellikle doğum yaptıkları gün virus saçtıklarını, bunların buzağılarının muhtemelen annelerinden saçılan virus ile enfekte olduklarını ve işletmedeki diğer yeni doğanlar için enfeksiyon kaynağı olduklarım ortaya koymuştur. Ayrıca kan ve süt serumu örneklerinin BRV spesifik antikorlar yönünden kontrolü sonuçlarına dayanılarak, doğal enfekte sığırların kolostrum/süt ile aktardıkları maternal antikorların postnatal yaşamın ilk 1 haftalık döneminde enfeksiyon oluşumunu, daha sonraki günlerde ise en azından klinik enfeksiyonun gelişimini önlediği belirlenmiştir.
