Abstract:

Abstract:
Despite the widespread of a number of modern critical approaches that attempt to read literary texts in isolation from any form of external context and providing the text with a broad space to speak from within itself, reading classical Arabic texts still requires the support of the context as a key reference to understand the text’s ideas and aims. In addition to functioning as the nurturing environment of the author, the context also serves as the targeted audience of the text’s ideas that originate from specific human experiences, which carry ethical, behavioural, and educational objectives. However, this does not prevent us from implementing some modernist reading techniques to explore the text’s dominant ideas, trace its development, and identify the connection between its levels of sound, word, structure, and meaning. This study aims to shed light on and introduce this type of texts that remained absent from Arabic poetry anthologies.
Key words: Longing, Apology, Poetry, Al-Bura’i, Text, Context.
