Abstract:

Balkan geography is a region that has been harbouring a Turkish population for centuries. The policies of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia encouraged the Turks to carry out intensive publishing activities in order to preserve their language and culture. In this context, local print media was used and newspapers and magazines were published in the mother tongue. In the Balkans, the largest number of Turkish works were printed in North Macedonia, and many magazines and newspapers were published. One of these publications is the magazine of Köprü, which started its publication life in Skopje in 2002. The aim of the study is to examine the Köprü, which has an important place among the Turkish press activities in the Balkans, and to examine the role of the magazine in the context of the preservation and survival of Turkish culture. It was concluded that the magazine, which was analysed by content analysis method, undertook an important function in terms of protecting the national and cultural identity of the Turks living in and around North Macedonia and keeping the Turkish language alive through press activities. The most common topics covered in Köprü are Turkish culture, art, literature, language, history, education, religion and belief, Ottoman civilisation and culture, and Turks living in Macedonia.
