Abstract:

In Algeria, voluntary or imposed celibacy (spinsterhood) is a blatant reality. In the space of a few years, the number of single women has tripled. This explosion is due to several societal factors: we find in the first place: the female wage. Even if the manners change, the couple remains the norm: the singles continue to be victims of social prejudices. To escape their stigmatization, women use a mixed marriage with immigrants. In this paper, we expose forty married women to Turkish, Syrian, Chinese and sub-Saharan. We used the technique of semi directive interview, to understand how these women have lived the hardened celibacy for several years. Once married to strangers, have they really escaped prejudices and rejection, have they really found happiness by marrying a stranger or just an escape from their bitter reality
