Abstract:

Today, populism is thought to affect political processes on a global scale. Populist politics, which emerged from the second half of the nineteenth century with the demands of America and Russia for small-scale reforms in their own countries, is the subject of much research and discussion today. While some of these debates have developed in the sense that the concept brings a new understanding that prioritises the needs of the people against the pro-elite understanding of classical politics, the other part has developed in the sense that populism distorts the quality of existing politics. Accordingly, the politics of populism is an endeavour to seize political power rather than an endeavour to solve the problems of the people. In order to seize power, it is thought that populist actors should primarily utilise the power of the media. However, a conservative organization that prioritizes the traditional values of society continues to operate in the political organization of Turkey. This structure, which develops on the axis of anger, fear and resentment against the political elites and the achievements of modernity, is shaped by populist actors, and the difference and moral value of the populist association formed are brought to the fore. The anti-majority populist actors who have taken such limited but effective power behind them do not need the feature of the media that appeals to the majority, instead they are getting closer to the political organizations with which they have close ties. The main claim of the study will be based on the idea that the use of mass media and the media, which are considered necessary for the spread of populism, has lost its validity in Turkeys traditional political environment.
