Proverbs and idioms are publicly known and stereotyped expressions that express a societys way of life, understanding, intelligence, thoughts, joys, fears and what lies in the social subconscious, and are tools for transmitting culture to future generations. These words, which are some of the most important linguistic and cultural treasures of nations, are forms through which societies express the events they encounter in their daily lives with judgments that contain a lot of meaning in few words. In addition to their instructive and instructive nature, their memorability due to their functionality and their ability to be passed on to future generations are among the primary reasons why they continue their existence for generations. The fact that there is a proverb and idiom related to almost every object is important in terms of revealing and showing the richness of the Turkish language. Although both are word patterns, idioms can mostly easily settle into the language from their first use, while proverbs; Since it has purposes such as guiding, advising, and informing facts for the purpose of being a lesson, which are information obtained as a result of experiences, it settles into the language and enters into common use later than idioms. These sayings, which are among the products of folk literature and reflect the cultural aspects of the society, update themselves in the face of the situations and formations in each new period and create new ones in accordance with the spirit of the time. These formulaic sayings, which are presented with a small and simple plot, occupy a very large and deep place in terms of meaning, contrary to what they seem. In our article; proverbs and idioms, which are constantly added without losing their currency, which have a social purpose and duty despite being the simplest of metaphorical genres such as folk songs, tales, and myths, and which bear traces of the social and cultural developments of the Turks, have been included in our study subject, and it is envisaged that they will contribute to proverb and idiom studies.
