Abstract:

Human beings have resorted to various arts for reasons such as expressing their feelings and expressing their experiences. The art of the novel, which stands out as a literary genre among the arts, has continued its existence in all societies for the last five centuries. Muhsin er-Ramli is among those who use the art of the novel, which has various genres such as historical, social and romantic. Muhsin er-Ramli is a writer who brings the oppression of the Iraqi people to the literary arena. His novel, The Presidents Gardens, was selected for the 2023 long list by the organization called The International Prize for Arabic Fiction IPAF. The events in the novel, which consists of 28 chapters and 271 pages, begin in a remote village in Iraq, then continue in Baghdad and end in the village again. The work applies mostly to critical style. It reveals the situation of the people as a result of the country going to war with Iran during the Saddam Hussein era, occupying Kuwait and then being occupied by American forces and it is clearly stated that the regime is not only disconnected from the people, but also oppresses them. For this reason, the novel is important for understanding the experiences of the Iraqi people, especially during the Saddam era. The work named The Presidents Gardens will be examined technically to determine how well it complies with the rules of the art of the novel, and thematically to determine the subjects it deals with.
