Abstract:

It is stated that Cenap Şahabettin was mainly influenced by symbolist and parnassian poets. The author who defends the idea that "poetry is a painting made by words.” includes new words and feelings in his poetry. In his poems, the poet, who will often try to combine the possibilities of painting and music, also adds his own unique insights. Thus, he reaches an interpretation of symbolism in Turkish literature, which differs from Western symbolist thinking. The purpose of this study is to reveal by discussing to what extent Cenap Şahabettin is a symbolist, who is often said to be the first symbolist poet.
