Abstract:

Orhan Kemals stories offer a remarkable panorama of the phenomenon of violence against women at a time when the process of modernization was accelerating social and cultural transformation. In this era, when ideological constructions of society were reflected in literature, the authors works draw attention to how violence, fed by patriarchal norms, is intertwined with economic difficulties and class inequalities. In particular, physical, sexual and psychological forms of violence are conveyed to the reader through characters enriched by Orhan Kemals power of observation. In these narratives, the mechanisms of oppression manifest themselves in the invisible parts of everyday life as a domination that limits women in the symbolic order. Socio-economic inequalities, exacerbated by rural-urban migration, limit womens social visibility and threaten their physical and emotional integrity. The author, who treads the fine line between literary fiction and social reality, addresses this violence, which damages womens physical and psychological integrity, from a questioning perspective. In this way, through literary discourse, he contributes to the visibility of a social problem that cannot be ignored in the transformation process of modern Turkey. The study aims to read the imprint of violence against women in Orhan Kemals stories from a gender perspective and to critically evaluate the structural and ideological dimensions of violence.
