Abstract:

Imâm ʿÂṣim was praised by scholars for him personality, virtue, piety taqwâ and qirâʾât. ʿÂṣim, who gained fame with him qirâʾât from the first period, is ranked 5th among mutawâtir imams. After his teacher Abû Abdul-Rahmân as-Sulamî, he came to the fore in the science of qirâʾât in Kûfah. He mostly taught the Qurʾân in al-Kûfah and traveled around the surrounding towns. The period in which he lived was the Umayyads period. During this period, ʿÂṣim, whose name was not involved in political events, devoted himself to teaching the Qurʾânqirâʾât and teaching students. Asims recitation recordchain is strong like other recitation imams. His qirâʾât, as riwâyâ by Hafs, is accepted today as well as throughout history. Due to this importance, useful studies have been carried out on ʿÂṣims life and qirâʾât. However, it would be beneficial to re-examine the issues related to his life and recitation in different details. For this reason, in this study, we tried to reveal his life, name, birth, death, lineage and personality, as well as his situation in the science of qirâʾât. In the study, only the evaluations made by scholars regarding his recitation and his method of reading and teaching will be discussed. Their teachers, students, riwâyâ, al-sanad and al-tarîq will be given in general. Different readings in terms of usûl and farsh al-ḥurūf will not be included. For the study, tabaqâtbiography and basic qirâʾât sources were examined and evaluations were made in line with the available information.
