Abstract:

It is not possible to speak of a single feminism as it is characterized by great diversity due to the difference in the theoretical traditions to which it is linked in terms of its historical and philosophical origins, the times of its emergence, and its demands and priorities. Nevertheless, different feminist approaches agree that from the very beginning, the history of political thought has had a flawed notion of women, ignored the relations between men and women, and fostered and magnified inequalities and injustices between the sexes. Since contemporary societies were founded on commitments to freedom and equality, but have so far failed to fully fulfill these commitments in the case of women, feminists have challenged the idea of justice as traditionally understood, and a number of political ideas such as authority, freedom and democracy. For the liberal thinker David Miller, it is essential to understand all the conditions in a democratic society in which people are truly free to choose their own path in life. In this context, Miller discusses feminist discourse and demands and examines how feminists should respond to these challenges. In this context, the article aims to show how Miller takes up the challenge posed by feminism to certain political ideas and how he tries to analyze them. In an attempt to resolve the challenge posed by feminism to certain political ideas, Miller elaborates on positive discrimination policies and argues that there is at least one form of positive discrimination that is consistent with the deservingness principle of justice.
