Abstract:

One of the most important models that enable the achievement of the rural development and strengthen the socio-economic status of women in rural areas is the practice of co-operatives. Cooperative as a concept refers to a business model in which people come together and unite their power for the same purposes as volunteers in order to act with solidarity. The women co-operatives, which happen to become popular in the recent times, contribute to the progress of agriculture i.e. an important industry by means of employment opportunities; as well as being a method of struggle for resolving the social and economical needs of the women. Under the light of such a context; we have performed a case study on Ahatlı Women Co-Operative located in the Kaş district of Antalya province as aiming to understand its role through the development of Antalya. The data for the study is obtained from the internet page of the co-operative and via phone interviews. Ahatlı Women Co-Operative cultivates the lands and performs production; whereas, it has been seen that increasing the number of other women co-operatives in agriculture-intense regions of Antalya would be beneficial. This study is deemed significant since being one of the few works on women co-operatives and also due to focusing on Ahatlı Women Co-Operative that has been established for the specific purpose of agricultural production.
