Abstract:

Before the modernization period in the Ottoman Empire, tafsīr was taught in madrasas alongside higher sciences, following the instrumental sciences. It was generally studied through tafsīr texts like al-Kashshāf and Anwār, as well as their ḥāshiyas. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of modernism on tafsīr education within the framework of the Dār al-Funūn ʿUlūm-i ʿĀliyye-i Dīniyye Department, established during the Tanzimat era as a modern educational institution. In line with this objective, the tafsīr curriculum, related regulations, textbooks, and instructors of the department will be identified, followed by an analysis tracing the influence of modernism on tafsīrs course. At Dār al-Funūn , a modern institution of higher religious education, it can be observed that students attended tafsīr courses across all levels. In accordance with the implemented educational reforms during the Second Constitutional Era, various changes took place such as the language of instruction, the development of educational materials, and the establishment of a Tafsīr-Hadith department. The scope of this study is confined to the years 1900-1914, corresponding to the opening and closing dates of the department. The study employs data collection from both primary and secondary sources, as well as data analysis methods.

Çalışmamızın amacı Tanzimâtla başlayan modernleşme sürecinde tesis edilen Dârülfünûn Ulûm-i Âliye-i Dîniyye Şubesi çerçevesinde modernizmin Tefsir dersleri üzerindeki etkilerini irdelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Osmanlıda aynı dönemde ve öncesinde medreselerde okutulan Tefsir derslerinin içeriğine yer verilecek ardından şubenin Tefsir dersi programları, düzenlemeleri, ders kitapları ve hocaları tespit edilerek Tefsir dersinde modernizmin etkilerinin izi sürülecektir. Modern yüksek din eğitimi kurumu olan Dârülfünûnun tüm sınıflarında Tefsir dersi verildiği görülmektedir. II.
