Abstract:

The Serbo-Orthodox Church in Pec
became patriarchate during the reign of Stefan Dushan. The Patriarchate, which
remained independent until the reign of Mehmed II, was closed in 1459 after the
conquest of Serbia. It was reopened in 1557 during the reign of Sultan Süleyman
the Magnificent with the efforts of Sokullu Mehmed Pasha. The presence of the
Patriarchate supported the formation and development of national consciousness
by holding Serbs together. Thanks to the patriarchate, the Orthodox Serbs
maintained their identity and maintained their religious and national unity.
One of the reasons why the Ottoman Empire reopened the patriarchate in 1557 was
to please Serbs in the face of Catholic Habsburg Empire. However, Orthodox
Serbs acted against the Ottomans in the Ottoman-Habsburg wars. As a result of
their attitudes, the Pec Patriarchate was closed in 1766 and it was connected
to the Fener-Greek Patriarchate.

İpek’de bulunan Sırp-Ortodoks
Kilisesi, Stefan Duşan döneminde patriklik seviyesine çıkmıştır. II. Mehmed
