 Human beings are at the source of todays environmental problems. The fact that people do not have a sustainable environmental awareness in this regard constitutes the essence of this resource. It is thought that formal education institutions have the most lasting impact on the formation of environmental awareness in society. In this context, environmental issues are included in geography teaching programs. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the environmental issues in the geography curriculum of our teachers in terms of content. In this research, which was carried out using the basic qualitative research method, geography teachers working in Secondary Education Institutions in Muğla Province were determined as the study group. The sample was selected using the accessible sample snowball technique. During the research process, interviews were conducted with teachers using structured interview forms. The interview form was prepared as a 10-question form, taking into account expert opinions. The data of the research was obtained from geography teachers working in private and public schools within the borders of Muğla Province in the 2022-2023 academic year. The research results were interpreted in tables in the form of themes and codes by content analysis. According to the results of the research, it was revealed that teachers generally found the content of environmental topics in the geography curriculum sufficient, but they were of the opinion that the activities, performance studies and application area were missing, and that the timing was not appropriate and it was not designed in accordance with the learning principles. In this regard, various suggestions have been developed to provide environmental education effectively within the geography curriculum.

 Günümüzde yaşanan çevresel problemlerin kaynağında insan vardır. İnsanların bu konuda sürdürülebilir bir çevre bilincine sahip olmamaları bu kaynağın özünü oluşturmaktadır. Toplumda çevre bilincinin oluşmasına en kalıcı etkiyi örgün öğretim kurumlarının yaptığı düşünülmektedir. Bu bağlamda coğrafya öğretim programları içinde çevre konuları yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada, öğretmenlerimizin coğrafya öğretim programlarındaki çevre konularını içerik açısından değerlendirmesi amaçlanmıştır. Temel nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılarak gerçekleştirilen bu araştırmada, Muğla İli Ortaöğretim Kurumlarında görev yapan coğrafya öğretmenleri çalışma grubu olarak belirlenmiştir. Örneklem, ulaşılabilir örneklem kartopu tekniğiyle seçilmiştir. Araştırma sürecinde, öğretmenlerle yapılandırılmış görüşme formları kullanılarak görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Görüşme formu, uzman görüşleri de dikkate alınarak 10 soruluk bir form olarak hazırlanmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri, Muğla İli sınırları içindeki özel ve devlet okullarında 2022-2023 eğitim öğretim yılında görev yapan coğrafya öğretmenlerinden elde edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları, içerik analizi yapılarak tema ve kodlar şeklinde tablolar halinde yorumlanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre, öğretmenlerin coğrafya öğretim programındaki çevre konularının içeriğini genel olarak yeterli buldukları ancak etkinlikler, performans çalışmaları ve uygulama alanının eksik olduğu, ayrıca zamanlamanın uygun olmadığı ve öğrenme ilkelerine uygun bir şekilde tasarlanmadığı görüşünde oldukları ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu doğrultuda, coğrafya öğretim programı içerisinde çevre eğitiminin etkili bir şekilde verilebilmesi için çeşitli öneriler geliştirilmiştir.
