Abstract:

Nowadays, the majority of people hunt for entertainment and sports purposes. A part of the society in cities uses hunting for sporting purposes. In this study, the contributions of income obtained from urban hunting and wildlife to the economy in the province of Istanbul were examined. Hunting activities that have direct economic benefits for the hunting and wildlife sector are discussed. The total revenues obtained from payments such as hunting license fees, hunting fees stamp, administrative fines for misdemeanors related to hunting and wildlife and compensation fees for native species have been determined. Sales revenues obtained from the carcasses of hunting and wild animals after being hunted in compliance with the laws have not been included in the evaluation. Data on the revenues from hunting and wildlife in Istanbul were provided for 5 years, covering the years 2018-2022. The revenues obtained in these years tend to increase. In 2022, the revenue obtained showed a significant increase and reached a value of 32,615,682.60 TL. The shares of these revenues in the Gross Domestic Product GDP calculated on a regional and national scale are also increasing. However, the share of hunting and wildlife in the GDP is still quite small. Consequently, it has been tried to reveal the contribution of the revenues generated from hunting and wildlife in Istanbul to our countrys Gross National Product or national economy.
