Abstract:

Koshk neighborhood is situated in the western part of Tabriz, within the Hukmabad district. Currently, the neighborhood consists mainly of a small mosque; however, it was historically home to significant structures, such as Koshk Fountain and Koshk Cemetery. There are differing opinions among the local populace regarding the origin of the neighborhoods name: some believe that it originated as a result of Ghazan Khans policies, in contrast, others argue that the name is derived from the Koshk Fountain in the vicinity. Historical sources refer to the Koshk neighborhood and its buildings, including a pavilion belonging to Amir Qutlughshah, a statesman from the Ilkhanate period. However, there are no definitive records regarding the physical structure or construction date of this pavilion. The central mosque, fountain, and cemetery of the Koshk neighborhood have undergone changed over time, with some structures disappearing altogether, although remnants of the regions past still remain. Lastly, research and findings in the area demonstrate the existence of architectural remnants and artifacts from the Ilkhanate period. Hovewer associating these remnants definitively with any specific structure from that period in the Koshk neighborhood would require archaeological excavations. The primary objective of this study is to identify the architectural and urban elements from the Ilkhanate period in Tabriz and to uncover traces of this period through Koshk neighborhood.
