Abstract:

This study attempts to analyse the political atmosphere in 1970’s Turkey via the cinema-film named “Güneş Ne Zaman Doğacak?”. Due to this length, it focuses on the distinct seperation between the right and left wings of Turkish politics, with a special attention on ‘the fight against communism’, which was organized both in actual and intellectual bases by Islamist-rooted movements and nationalist circles. “Under the effect of the political sphere which was determined under the conditions of the Cold War, “Güneş Ne Zaman Doğacak?” had a symbolic but initiating effect on Kahramanmaraş Massacre in 1978. In this context, the argument in this paper would be called as a critical estimation on “Milli Sinema” through the “Güneş Ne Zaman Doğacak” film. Finally study comes to an end with a confrontation on Turkish popular and political culture within these clues.
