Abstract:

Gender inequality explains the bulk of the difference in the growth of real per capita income in the economies of many countries around the world. The lack of economic empowerment of women is a macroeconomic cost of wasting investments and national economic energies through direct and indirect impacts that curb growth rates and the welfare of society. Therefore, the study aimed at estimating this cost to the Egyptian economy (1990-2012) through a model based on macroeconomics estimates for a set of indicators that indicate gender discrimination as independent variables and the real average per capita income expressed in the development phase of the state as a dependent variable of the Specialized Programme E-VlEWS7.
The study concluded that there is a direct relationship between women's lack of economic empowerment and economic growth, as women's lack of economic empowerment has a direct impact on reducing the efficiency and accumulation of capital and an indirect impact on reducing the cost of the other opportunity to stay at home and increasing fertility rates.
What further adversely effects for not empowering women economically on the national economy and always makes it in a malicious and escalating circle of losses, eliminating and devolving any developmental achievements is that all the variables that are important in the non-empowering women economically variable are variables with increasing functions.
The study made several recommendations that would achieve the necessary condition (advancement of women) and sufficient condition (societal change associated with the advancement of women, i.e. comprehensive societal revival) to raise and sustain the rates of economic growth and welfare of society.
