Abstract:

Purpose-The quality of publicly traded companies in a country are among the determinants of the level of development for capital markets.
This study analyzes whether the methods applied in the initial public offers cause a difference between the groups according to the winner
and loser distinction or not.
Methodology- The difference between the groups of winners and losers of the methods according to the absolute return for the first trading
day after the IPO, for the first month and the first year, was compared with the Mann Whitney-U or Kruskal Wallis-H test.
Findings- When the difference between winners and losers is examined one by one, it is seen that only the demand method affects only the
losers. In addition, according to the Chi2 test result, there were only findings that there was a significant difference only in absolute return in
sales method.
Conclusion- The methods applied in the IPO don't have a noticeable determinant on the gain or loss of the investor. The investor should
examine the financial information with caution regarding whether the company has an investment grade feature in the IPO prospectus.
