Abstract:

The subject of unity and dispute management is one of the essential components of the reformation project led by Bediuzzaman Said Nursi. The importance of this component is derived from the reality of conflict and disunity lived by the Muslim community and nourished by hatred and animosity among its members, the scholars and the public alike. In order to overcome this predicament and to be cured from this disease, Said Nursi directs the Muslim community to the clinic of the Qur'an and the pharmacy of Sunnah (the Prophetic heritage). Nursi diagnoses the disease and prescribes the cure. The diagnosis shows severe illnesses that are wearing out the community. Thus, the prescription includes cures for them so that the community becomes healthy again by being united by love and cooperation. Moreover, Nursi clarifies the importance of this unity. He also has plans for its way and describes its characteristics. Nursi, may God bless his soul, stresses two important issues to maintain unity and empower it. The first one is internal jihad carried out against one's [instinctual] soul in order to purify it. The second one is to understand and apply methods of dispute management. Nursi directs his advice to all ranks of society, scholars and the public alike. Thus, the community becomes healthy and immune to the diseases that threaten it.
