Abstract:

Postmodernism paved the way for the reappearance of the elements of mythological narratives in contemporary literature occurs. Sema Kaygusuz, one of contemporary Turkish literature authors, used mythological elements in her novel Yere Düşen Dualar. This work, written from a postmodern understanding, includes the main beings and elements of gypsy mythology while creating new fictions in the intertextual context. In these fictions, Kaygusuz sometimes uses only the name of a mythological character, sometimes she takes a mythological element out of its context and brings it into the work with a different plot. She sometimes, remains faithful to the mythological background and treats the characters created with the same names, thereby directing the reader to the Gypsy Myth itself. This paper analyses the mythological creatures and elements and discusses in the intertextual context the treatment of the Gypsy Mythology in the novel Yere Düşen Dualar.
