Abstract:

A document is different from a manuscript in many ways. But they also share a number of features, which this research work seeks to unveil. Such commonalities are related to their physical aspect, including how they are preserved, as well to the people handling them. The inter-relationship dates back to the earliest time of document production, when documents existed alongside manuscripts. Like manuscripts, documents have been a major source for the writing of biographies and history. The author has illustrated these points with examples of handwritten documents from Sheikh Ahmed al-Salman's private library that have since been deposited with the King Abdul-Aziz Foundation.
