Abstract:

Individuals have realized their intangible values such as traditions, beliefs and rituals in places and embraced these places after a certain period of time. These values have been passed down from generation to generation and have become the heritage of all humanity. The Hıdırellez ritual is one of the them and is celebrated every year to herald the arrival of spring. The city known as Tarsus, which is within the scope of the study, is a rich region with its natural and cultural heritage. Furthermore, the Hıdırellez ritual is one of the intangible cultural heritage elements of this city. It is celebrated every year within the organization of Tarsus Municipality to herald the coming of spring. However, since it is not organized within a certain plan, there are some disunity in the context of the space celebration and it is usually actualized only with the small number of the local people. Therefore, the architectural, cultural and historical values of the city are ignored. The aim of this study is to offer Hıdırellez to the tourism and increase the recognition of the settlement; thus, reveal the values of Tarsus with a sustainable conservation approach. Throughout the study, a literature review was conducted, and then, with on-site examination and determination studies, the culturalnatural heritage of the city and the places where Hıdırellez was celebrated in previous years were examined. In the light of the findings that is collected, it was determined that there was no integrity between these locations. In this context, it is envisaged that a route proposal for the city that is specifically prepared for the Hıdırellez ritual will be developed and that the ritual will be offered to urban tourism in the region and the settlement will be preserved with its universal qualities and transferred to future generations.
