 This case study is part of a larger study that examines the nature of the relationship between student teachers and their cooperating teachers. The case study reports on the types of cooperating teacher-caused issues a mathematics student teacher encountered during his semester-long student teaching experience as well as how and to what extent he was able to resolve such issues independently. Qualitative methods were used for data collection. Data were gathered from multiple sources, including school visits (observations and field notes), phone calls and WhatsApp messages, office meetings, and a semi-structured interview at the end of the student teaching experience. The findings indicated that the mathematics student teacher encountered cooperating teacher-caused issues in all the areas of teaching practice (planning, implementation, and evaluation). Remarkably, he showed a unique desire to tackle every issue on his own and often succeeded in overcoming the issues or at least mitigating their undesired consequences. Implications of the findings for educational settings are discussed.
