Abstract:

Background and Aims Ecosystem services are defined as natural processes and resources that support human well-being and are essential for the continuity of life. Conservation and management of these services are important for maintaining the functionality of ecosystems and understanding their impact on human well-being. In this study, a bibliometric analysis of graduate theses on ecosystem services in Türkiye was conducted. Methods In the study, masters and doctoral theses accessed through the National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education were analyzed; the distribution of theses by years, university and institute-based distribution, advisor profiles, research regions, keywords and themes were analyzed. Results The study revealed that 90 masters theses and 47 doctoral theses on ecosystem services were completed in Türkiye, these studies showed a significant increase since 2016, and these studies were concentrated in the fields of environment, natural sciences and engineering, especially in the Departments of Landscape Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning and Forest Engineering. Theses in fields such as social sciences, economics, law and public administration are quite limited. As a result of the keyword analysis, it was determined that the concept of ecosystem services emerged as a basic concept, while concepts such as urban, landscape and green were also frequently used. In the network analysis, phrases such as ecosystem services, ecosystem services, geographic information, green infrastructure, climate change and urban green stand out among the central keywords. Conclusion In order to raise awareness on ecosystem services in Türkiye, it is necessary to expand interdisciplinary studies in the academic field, conduct more research on different ecosystems such as marine, high mountain and arid areas, carry out studies on issues such as estimation of the economic value of ecosystem services, integration them into agricultural production processes and their place in natural resource policies.
