Abstract:

A researcher in Islamic studies shall certainly notice that Islam provides for a brotherly relation between science and religion, reporting and sanity, and between prudence and Sharia. Islam that has honored science and scientists and has made both reach to bear witness for the unification of Allah with His angels – is completely innocent from the question of discrepancy between sanity and Sharia, which is in fact a question of illusion. Islam ordered the imposition of science and made it obligatory for every Muslim that it is not only a human right. Therefore, the position of Islam is different in the sense that its teachings are based on calling for freeing minds from delusions and superstitions. But within the scope of this question, there appeared three trends: The first trend: The followers of this trend judge that sanity is superior over Sharia, and that all knowledge’s are stemmed from the mental powers. The second trend: The followers of this trend believe that Sharia must have the absolute power, and that intellect has no introduction to the content of Sharia. The third trend: It is a trend the comes in the middle of the two above trends, and its followers tried to solve the illusory discrepancy, whereas they declared that there is no discordance between intellect and Sharia, which is the doctrine of “the Sunni and Jamaa faction”, who include the Ashaiera headed by Imam Alghazali. Alghazali sees each as light from Allah, and either cannot contradict the other. Therefore, the importance of selecting this topic is to highlight the significant role of persuasiveness made by Alghazali is resolving this illusory discrepancy between intellect and reporting, and how far he was able to uncover the need of both to one another, and his attempt to establish some sort of agreeability between both. In the opinion of Alghazali, the sound method of knowledge is limited in fitting together the light of Sharia with that of sanity, and not stopping at the form of both, separating one from another, or transforming them into two opponents, because, in fact, both are brothers and one complement the other. Alghazali also tried to prove that both are indispensible and each is in need for the other, and that combining intellectual sciences with religious ones is a must-be for those pursuing the truth. This research has adopted the analytic methodology by analyzing the related texts of Alghazali, and it was divided into an introduction, two objects of discussion, and a conclusion.
