Abstract:

This research aims to provide an overview of the urbanisation of Algiers by describing its various buildings which made it, since the sixteenth century, one of most famous cities in the Mediterranean Sea. We will talk, in particular, about the port, fortifications and the defensive installations, religious installations, hydraulic structures, the residential areas and the various public facilities such as hammams, hotels and cafés. In general, the movement of urbanisation in Algiers witnessed a great recovery and prosperity, as it knew an upward trend during the ottoman era , which is confirmed by the different local and European sources that described the city.
