 تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى محاولة الكشف عن المستويات المختلفة لحجم التنافر المعرفي، ومستوى تقدير الذات، وتعرف العلاقة بين أبعاد التنافر المعرفي، والدرجة الكلية ومتغير تقدير الذات لدى عينة من طلاب جامعة أم القرى وطالباتها. والكشف عن الفروق الإحصائية بين الجنسين في كل من أبعاد التنافر المعرفي والدرجة الكلية وتقدير الذات لدى طلاب جامعة أم القرى وطالباتها. وكشفت الدراسة عن الفروق الإحصائية في الدرجة الكلية لمقياس تقدير الذات لدى الطلبة من الجنسين بجامعة أم القرى تعزى لأبعاد التنافر (البعد الداخلي الشخصي، البعد الخارجي الاجتماعي، الدرجة الكلية للتنافر المعرفي) بحسب الجنس. بلغ إجمالي العينة الكلية في الدراسة (336) طالباً وطالبة: (154 طالباً، 182طالبة)، واستخدم مقياس التنافر المعرفي (DISS- R) لكاسل وآخرون(Cassel,et. Al, 2001) في صورته الثانية، وكانت أهم النتائج: أن مستوى حجم التنافر المعرفي للدرجة الكلية دون المتوسط، في حين كان مستوى تقدير الذات الكلي في المتوسط، كما أظهرت النتائج وجود علاقة ارتباطية سالبة (عكسية) دالة إحصائياً بين الدرجة الكلية للتنافر المعرفي وتقدير الذات، ولم تظهر النتائج وجود فروق دالة إحصائياً في إجمالي الدرجة الكلية للتنافر الكلي لدى طلبة جامعة أم القرى بحسب الجنس (طلاب- وطالبات).
                  This study aims to find the different levels of Cognitive Dissonance and self-esteem, and to identify the relationship between the dimensions of Cognitive Dissonance, total degree and the self-esteem variable in a sample of male/female students in Umm Al-Qura University. It also aims to reveal the statistical gender differences in Cognitive Dissonance and Self-Esteem; the total degree, and Self-Esteem among Umm Al-Qura University students. The study revealed that the statistical differences in the total degree of the self-esteem measure for both male and female students in Umm Al-Qura University were due to inconsistency factors (personal inner factor – the external socio factor, the total degree of cognitive dissonance) as per sex. The sample of the study comprised (336) students (154 males and 182 females). It used the DISS-R (Cassel, et al., 2001) and the Self-Esteem scale (translated by Abdullah Mohammed). The most important results showed that the level of Cognitive Dissonance for the total degree was below average, while the level of self esteem was average. The results also pointed out a negative correlation (inverse) of statistical function in the overall degree of Cognitive Dissonance and Self-Esteem. The results did not reveal any statistically significant gender-related differences in the overall degree of Cognitive Dissonance among the students of Umm Al-Qura University.
