Abstract:

The policies implemented by Alexey Andreyevich Arakcheev 1769-1834 affected the Russian society so deeply that the concept of Arakcheevshchina, which expresses a strict and harsh management style, was derived from his surname. The research topic of our article is to examine the reasons and consequences of the emergence of this concept through literary works. The aim of the study is to illuminate the historical and political background of Russian literature in the first quarter of the 19th century through Arakcheevs policies and their consequences. Russian literary works featuring Arakcheev in the first quarter of the 19th century were determined as research material. In the research, critical theory, content analysis and comparative analysis methods were used. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that Arakcheev appeared in a more positive manner until the 1812 Patriotic War, when his military aspect came to the fore, and as an oppressive, despotic and cruel historical figure between 1812 and 1825. It was concluded that the reason why the name Arakcheev came to the fore was that Alexander I, who was carried away by mysticism, left the administration to him. This study contributes to the understanding of the broader implications of Arakcheevs policies and highlights the significance of shaping literature during the early 19th century in Russia.
