 M. Âkif İnan is among the poets who have been active in the literary scene since the 1960s and who have created a generation of artists with periodicals such as Edebiyat Dergisi and Mâverâ, around which they gathered. Over time, this generation began to be given special importance due to its success in continuing the line of Islamic literature with innovative artistic approaches. İnan, who represented the life view of the artistic circle to which he belonged through his own poetic style, has become a poet who attracted attention especially with his connection with tradition and his claim to obtain new opportunities from it. It can be said that İnans poetry undertakes the following as a primary task: To put forward a defense against the attacks on the Eastern civilization shaped by the Islamic religion and the values of this civilization. To insist on a poetic line that not only evaluates this defense on an intellectual level but also takes the literary tradition into consideration in terms of structure. In İnans poems, the dominant idea is to escape from the urban order and the occupation of objects that represent modernity; instead, to connect to roots that gain identity with spiritual values and to nature that represents them. It can be said that these tendencies, which are connected to each other by certain ties, establish a world of meaning and give the real color to this accumulation of poetry, which is integral in terms of content and expression.

 M. Âkif İnan, 1960lı yıllardan itibaren edebiyat ortamında etkinlik gösteren ve etrafında toplandıkları Edebiyat Dergisi, Mâverâ gibi süreli yayınlarla bir sanatkâr kuşağı meydana getiren şairler içerisinde yer alır. Zamanla bu kuşağa, İslâmî edebiyat çizgisinin yenilikçi sanat anlayışlarıyla devamı noktasındaki başarısıyla, hususî bir önem verilmeye başlanmıştır. Mensup olduğu sanatkâr çevresinin hayat görüşünü kendi şiir tarzıyla temsil eden İnan da bilhassa gelenekle kurduğu bağ itibarıyla; ondan yeni imkânlar elde etme iddiasıyla ilgi çeken bir şair olmuştur. Denebilir ki İnanın şiiri aslî bir görev olarak şunları üstlenir: İslâm dininin ışığıyla güç bulan Doğu medeniyetine ve bu medeniyeti var eden değerlere dönük saldırılara karşı bir savunu ortaya koymak. Bu savunuyu yalnızca fikrî planda değerlendirmekle, eserlerinin muhtevasını bu doğrultuda belirlemekle kalmayıp yapı bakımından da edebî geleneği göz önünde tutan bir poetik çizgide ısrarcı olmak. İnanın şiirlerinde hâkim bir fikir olarak moderniteyi temsil eden kent düzeninden, eşyanın işgalinden kaçış; bunun yerine manevî değerlerle kimlik kazanan öze ve onu temsil eden toprağatabiata bağlanış belirleyici olmaktadır. Birtakım örüntülerle birbirine bağlanan bu yönelimlerin bir anlam dünyası kurduğu; fikrî tutum ve söyleyiş bakımından bütünlük gösteren bu şiir birikimine bir çehre çizdiği söylenebilir.
