Abstract:

With Atatürk’s encouragement, Muhsin Ertuğrul established Theatre for Young Audiences at the Istanbul Municipality City Theatre in 1935. Throughout the years, even though Theatre for Young Audiences has become well-known and the number of theatre performances for young audiences has increased, the quality of the theatre has not shown the same progress. This project attempts to illuminate how theatre artists conceptualize the child and Theatre for Young Audiences in order to suggest that there is a correlation between the quality of the Theatre for Young Audiences and theatre artists’ conceptualization of the child and Theatre for Young Audiences. The author uses a qualitative research method to analyze the research findings. For the methodology of the project, the author asks the following questions to twenty theatre artists, who are actors, playwrights or stage directors: 1- Who is a child? What are the characteristics of a child? 2- How should and should not theatre artists make theatre for young audiences? What are the essentials of theatre-making for young audiences? According to the research findings, theatre artists conceptualize children based upon their age differences. They also believe that children are not only simple-hearted and free from bias but also inquisitive and curious. Furthermore, theatre artists also point out that they should respect children as much as they respect adults as theatre audiences. Theatre for Young Audiences requires the same artistic attention as much as the theatre for adults does no matter what the subject matter of theatre performances. The author uses TYA as the abbreviation of Theater for Young Audiences.

Nedir? Özellikleri Nelerdir? 2- Çocuk Tiyatrosu nasıl olmalıdır? Nasıl olmamalıdır? Kırmızıçizgileri nelerdir? Veriler Nitel araştırma yöntemi- içerik analizi tekniği ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bu çalışma kapsamında çocuk tiyatrosu ÇT şeklinde anılacaktır.
