Abstract:
This research aims to introduce an important historical figure, who is one of the prominent Muslim personalities and sailors who left their mark in the pages of history, and in stories of myths, and stories of the generations living on the coasts overlooking the two banks of the Mediterranean basin. He is the prince of the sea, Dragut Rais (Targut), one of the students of Qaboudan al-Bahr Khair al-Din Barbaros. Dargoth Rais had an effective contribution to liberating the Islamic Maghreb coasts, especially western Tripoli and Tunisia, from the Spanish and Maltese Christian occupation, and he also had a great contribution in attacking the Italian and Spanish Christian coasts, to secure the way for the Islamic ships in the western basin of the Mediterranean. I have used the historical, descriptive and analytical method in order to introduce this personality and give it its right to study, in order to find out the achievements of Rice’s naval vessels during the period of the Ottoman-Islamic-Spanish-Christian conflict. Through this study, I reached several results, the most important of which is that the character of Targoud Rice (or Dragut Rice, as some writings call it), had a great role in liberating many Maghreb coasts from the Spanish Christian occupation, especially the western coasts of Tripoli and the southern coasts of Tunisia. In light of this study, it is suggested that this personality be studied in a collective book in order to gain knowledge about it more broadly.
