Abstract:

The Xueyantuo Khaganate was established through a rebellion as a result of the attempts of some Tiele tribes who did not want to be vassals of the Türks. The most powerful of the rebel tribes, Xueyantuo beg Yinan, owed his khaganate authority to the fact that he had defeated the Türks. The fact that he established good relations with the Tang Dynasty in a short time was also due to the compatibility of his interest with Tangs security policy. Some of the Türks were captured and taken to China as prisoner. The nobles were given titles and rank. Jiesheshuai, a member of the Ashina royal clan, had stormed the Tang palace with 40 people, tried to kidnap Taizong and raise Tulis son as khagan, but failed. On the other hand, the Chinese were afraid of the Türks, pushing them to settle in the southern steppe between the Great Wall and the Gobi Desert and to make Ashina Simo the khagan, thus trying to get rid of the internal threat posed by the Türks. This policy made the legitimacy of Xueyantuo khagan problematic. In this way, the two states united in destroying the Türk political presence in the steppe, became oppoistes. In modern studies, it is widely believed that the two states had a conflict of interest and that the Tang was forced to use military force. Considering the devastating effect of the internal conflicts that took place before he Tang military intervention it is understood that this may not be the case. By considering internal and external factors together, more valid and healty results can be achieved.
