Abstract:

Considering intercultural differences in museology, examining social acceptance and exclusion through museum practices, prioritizing the needs of the audience, emphasizing the roles museums play in democratization processes, and the concept of ethics are important components of the definition of a museum. Ethics represent the necessary rules and principles to help those working in this field make decisions regarding the future of their museums, their collections, and their relationships with communities. Adherence to the ethical principles agreed upon in the museum sector ensures that actions are taken within a framework of universally accepted rules, rather than individual ethical understandings that may vary from person to person. This study examines examples of international museum ethical codes within the framework of the International Council of Museums ICOM ethical codes, focusing on the ethical approach of serving society, the public, and professional museum workers. The applicability of ethical rules in university museums and exhibition halls within Ankara University was analyzed descriptively and quantitatively, based on the views of the personnel in charge. According to the obtained data, although mentioned museums and exhibition halls did not have their own ethical codes and rules, they tried to fulfill many ethical codes. It was observed that there was not enough information and personnel for the implementation of some ethical codes.
