Abstract:

Baqi, who sang his praise on behalf of different statesmen, especially the sultan of the period, Qanuni, contacted many people with this function of the qasida and gained the patronage of a significant part of it. Baqis poems, written in qasida verse form, have an important place in his biography in terms of understanding some aspects of his life story. In the main sources of his biography, there is no mention of qasida being written in his name. Both of the qasidas registered consecutively in a manuscript registered with the number 850 in the Resid Efendi collection of the Süleymaniye Manuscript Library were written during this duty of Baqi, who was appointed to the office of kazasker more than once between 1586 and 1598 within the scientific bureaucracy. It is not clear exactly which of the poets who sang poetry under these pseudonyms in classical Turkish literature belonged to the qasidas that were learned to belong to the poets with the pseudonyms Ahli and Vali from the title and pseudonym couplets. The expressions kazi-yi askar-i shah-i kishver-güsha-yı Rum in the qasida of the Governor and kazi-yi askar-i mansur in the qasida of Ahli indicate that both qasidas were written while Baqi was serving as a kazasker. While the depictions of the identity of the scholar and poet of the mamduhun, that is, Baqi, are processed together in the qasidas, the presence of couplets expressing biographical details from time to time is also striking, and it would not be wrong to say that such details give the qasidas a documentary quality in a sense. Despite the ups and downs of his career in the scientific organisation, Baqi aspired for many years to the position of sheikh al-islam, the highest level of this bureaucracy, and he came very close to achieving this goal on several occasions, but was unable to do so. Of course, it is possible to say that in addition to the Anatolian kazaskar, the bureaucratic power of Baqi increased during the duty of the Rumelian kazaskar, which was considered the last step before the office of sheikh al-Islam in a certain period of the 16th century. In this article, which was prepared in line with the main goal of unearthing the texts of two odes, on which no work has been done; firstly, the biographies of the poets who sang poetry under the pseudonyms Ahli and Vali in classical Turkish literature were evaluated, the possibilities of belonging of the qasidas were emphasized, the information about the direct and indirect contact of these poets with Baqi was mentioned, some details reflected in the qasidas were evaluated and the translated texts of the poems were presented. With this study, it is aimed to shed light on this unremarkable aspect of the biography of Baqi, one of the leading poets of Turkish literature.

Vâlînin kasidesinde kâzî-yi asker-i şeh-i kişver-güşâ-yı Rûm, Ehlîninkinde ise kâzî-yi asker-i mansûr biçimindeki ifadeler, iki kasidenin de Bâkînin kazaskerlik görevinde bulunduğu sırada kaleme alındığına işaret etmektedir.
